1. Realize, that only Allah responds to your dua (supplication)

One of the basic essences of Tawheed (monotheism) is that only Allah can answer to your Dua and that Allah is the only one who has the power to grant it.

Vers from the holy Quran [27:62]:
“Is He [not best] who responds to the desperate one when he calls upon Him and removes evil and makes you inheritors of the earth? Is there a deity with Allah? Little do you remember.”

“Dua is Worship” Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) [Abu Dawud 17:1465]

A basic Islamic knowledge is, worship directed to anyone else than Allah is recognized as shirk [i.e. associating partners with Allah] and is a major sin, in fact the biggest sin one can commit.

  2. Ask Allah with absolute resolve and certainty that your dua will be answered

by making Dua to Allah, it is from utter importance and absolute necessity, to believe that He will respond.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “none of you should say: “Oh Allah! Forgive me if You wish,” or “bestow Your mercy on me if You wish,” or “provide me with means of subsistence if You wish,” but he should be firm in his request, for Allah does what He wills and nobody can force Him (to do anything) [Sahih al-Bukhari 97:103]

the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: “ask Allah when you are sure of His response, and remember that Allah does not accept the dua of unmindful and neglectful heart.” [Al-Tirmidhi and al-Hakim, sahih al-Jamih: 245]

  3. Before you make Dua, praise Allah and send blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him)

Don’t be hasty in your Dua and comply with this important etiquette of Dua.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) was once sitting in the mosque, when a person entered and prayed two rakaats. After he finished, he said: “O Allah, forgive me and have mercy on me!” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “you have been hasty, O Worshipper! When you finish your prayer, then sit down and praise Allah with the praise that He is worthy of, and pray upon me, then state your dua.”
After that, another man prayed, and hten praised Allah and prayed upon the Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to him, “Oh Worshipper! Make your dua, and it will be answered! [Narrated by al-Tirmidhi and al-Nasai, authenticated in sahih al-Jami:3988]

As you can understand cleary from the hadith above, that the etiquette of praising Allah and then praying upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) before making dua to Allah and asking him for something is very important and has been instructed by the Prophet (peace be upon him ), to get your duas answered.

…to be continued… in sha Allah
